At one of our Trade Shows we had been hearing that some people might be considering using this well known chain drug store located in virtually every USA city to have their slides scanned. We thought we would give one of our ********s stores a chance at scanning some sample slides and then do a comparison with our service.
On 6/27/08 at 7:55 a.m. I stopped by the store at 924 Windsor St in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and asked if they did the 35mm slide scanning The girl in the Photo department didn't know if they did or not. She said that the manager of the department would be in at 8 a.m. I decided to wait At 8:05 a.m. the manager finally arrived and had to punch in before he could wait on me. By that time, the previous girl told me that she had talked to another manager and that they did scan the slides. I said that I would pick them up at a later time.
On Sunday 6/29/08, I stopped by and picked up my slides and the disk that the images were copied to. The disk cost was $2.99. For 20 slides, the cost was $0.25 each. Total of $8.32 including taxes. Which came to $0.42 per slide.
On 6/30/08 I got to the office and put the disk in my computer, wanting to just copy the images to my hard drive. Its not that easy.
When you put their disk into your drive it tries to connect to the Internet. Why is that necessary? It isn't. They apparently are trying to track you in some way.

After telling the program that it could NOT connect to the Internet, the W Photo Studio pops up.

I had ordered 20 slides scanned but there are only two images in the viewer. Well, maybe there are more if I save them to the hard drive.

They are copied, I guess by default, to your "My Pictures" folder. There are only two images in the folder. So I call Walgreens up and tell them that, out of twenty slides, they only gave me two of them. The girl says she has no idea what happened but I can bring them back in and they will scan them again. She says that they do not scan them to a hard drive so there is no retrieving them. This means driving 8 miles round trip to drop off and then another 8 miles round trip to pick up. About a gallon of gas at $3.96 a gallon. Do I get a credit for that gas? I don't think so.
To be continued when I have time to take them back over to Walgreens again.

Took the slides over to ********s again and told the girl that I brought 20 slides in but only two images were on the disk. She made some kind of excuse that sometimes problems do occur and that they would scan them over again. She said something else about the images not being there and I said that there were only 20 slides and that missing 18 of them seemed to be more than acceptable error. I said that disks should be checked before saying they are ready for pickup. She said that they do not check the disks.
I picked the new disk up later in the day. The girl had made me some prints to go with the disk so as to try to make up for the mistake. That was nice.
